The rest is no longer unwritten for The Hills reality-TV star Audrina Patridge, who welcomed a baby girl two years ago-almost eight years to the day after the finale of the beloved TV show. Patridge is no stranger to drama-whether it involved her then-BFF Lauren Conrad or her tumultuous relationship with Justin Bobby-but the only drama in her life recently involved moving into a brand-new home in Orange County, a mere four weeks before her due date. Her priority: finishing her master bedroom before the arrival of baby Kirra.
To achieve this monumental project in record time, she called on the help of Decorist head of design Ashley Redmond. The brief? Creating a restful Balinese bohemian bedroom fit for a new mom. Together, Patridge and Redmond nailed down the design in just two days-and had it installed within the month. We chatted with the designer to give us all her secrets on decorating a The Hills-approved bedroom on a budget, and on time. Step into Audrina Patridge's house for the full tour.
"It was really important to Audrina to create a place where they could relax together as a family," says the designer, who turned a blank bedroom into a dramatic oasis. "Aesthetically, Audrina really loves the Bali feel, so I definitely wanted to infuse the space with a global vibe, but stick to a more neutral palette. I wanted the space to feel interesting and vibrant, but also a relaxing, luxurious retreat for them."
To add dramatic flair, Redmond applied black faux-crocodile wallpaper to the focal wall behind the bed, a dramatic white Balinese carved bed. "It made a huge impact to the room and really created an amazing contrast with the bed, and set the tone for the room."
"Audrina's personal style is very close to the one we chose to the bedroom," says Redmond, who describes the star's look as relaxed, sexy, global, and pattern-infused. "We were laughing when we were working on the room together because she had a shirt that exactly matched the lamp we had picked out!"Carla Choy , design by Ashley Redmond for Decorist
Patridge is quite the decorator herself. "Audrina had purchased the amazing bed right when we started working together so that was definitely the focal point of the space and what we designed around," says Redmond. "It's a great establishing piece, and I really wanted it to be the focal point of the design."Carla Choy , design by Ashley Redmond for Decorist
While Patridge is a big fan of black and white, Redmond wanted to infuse the space with a few subtle colorful notes. "I'm a lover of color, so I felt like the colorful accents in the pillows really added life and interest to all the neutrals." Ultimately, her goal was to ensure that the new mom's vision transpired in the space. "I love how representative of Audrina this space is. It feels traveled, luxurious, and comfortable."
The best aspect of this design-other than the fact that it was achieved in a flash-is that it goes to show that you really can achieve a high/low mix and make it look elegant. "I think this room is a great representation of how you can create fabulous designs on a budget," says Redmond. "The bed was definitely a splurge and something Audrina loved. But everything else was extremely affordable and beautiful!"
While most decorating projects come with a slew of issues, Redmond assures us that Patridge's master bedroom came together seamlessly. "This one of the easiest and quickest projects I have ever completed," she tells us. "Audrina has great taste and a very distinct idea of what she likes and doesn't like, so that made my job very easy. When I suggested the wallpaper, I thought she would think I was crazy, and I was so happy that she loved it because I really wanted to see it come together!" Patridge is now settled in her new nest, accompanied by newborn Kirra and Lady, the pup. We predict the rest of her story will be written from a very cozy, stylish, and drama-free oasis.
